In a simple, horizontal resting state the human body develops pressure areas where weight naturally compresses the body and limits circulation. The harder the surface, the greater the compressions. A sagging or distorted sleep surface promotes an unnatural spine alignment and excess pressure points. The body will naturally try to compensate generally, by using our lower back muscles in order to find a more comfortable position and ease circulation. Muscle tension created during sleep, can easily contribute to morning discomfort and pain in the lower back area. In the “search” to find a comfortable position, muscles are continuously being used, kind of like exercising while you are sleeping. This constant tossing and turning robs you of much REM sleep, the most restful state of sleep humans require for the body to regenerate properly. With the proper support base for our head, neck, and torso we allow our bodies to relax and release muscle tensions accumulated during our daily conscious state-contributing to a sound sleep for a refreshed start to the day.
